When you go to this Myrrh’s myspace start from the bottom, with their best songs, Celebrate Umali Dal and Way Body Moves.  This groove up band has a lot of potential, but I found the distorted-to-shit echo transformer voice on every song on this page.  If you like dancey- druggy-don’t give a shit ecstasy music, this group is for you.

Now imagine that someone decided to take all of your favorite songs and cover them. Starting to become less of a cool idea? Sure it is. You decide that though less cool, it might not be the worst thing that has ever happened in the world. It may even (dare I say it)turn out to be alright. Right? (Kanye shrug) Maybe.

Spelunks: 2 of a Kind
Lo-fi, slightly electro rock outlet Spelunks off of Sleepout Recordings offers contemplative tracks thanks to the meandering bass vocals and simply crafted mix of guitar/bass/drum/synth. Tracks like 2 of a Kind offer a lulling effect with standout instrumentals and simple, relatable lyrics. The solely instrumental Cchhuurrnn sees the group getting a bit more post-rock with plenty of guitar feedback. MP3: Teen Inc.: “Fountains”

I think we’ve just found the exact musical point at which irony comes full circle, transcending knowing smirks, affected head bobbling, and general cheek-tonguing. This music isn’t supposed to be funny any more. It’s too good. With breathless yelps and stop-start rhythms, Teen Inc. blur the lines between humour and suspense. The end product is as ambiguous as Prince’s underwear drawer - over-the-top yet deadly serious. “Fountains” is spasmic electro funk of the highest order.

MP3: Soft Powers: “Mary Never Sings Our Songs”

From Georgian duo Soft Powers we have a song quite different to the their alluringly glam and tightly wound “I Began To Cringe At Eight Ten”, which boasted bayonet guitar punches and MGMT style psychedelic falsetto. In contrast, “Mary Never Plays Our Songs” is a room-spinning ballad that gradually swells, consuming its own narrator, then unfolds wonderfully to reveal an epic prog refrain that stays with you well after the song is over. And of course there’s the, er, MGMT style psychedelic falsetto.
