I know what it feels like to be an anomaly; trust me but Seattle born artist Jesse Edwards is THE ULTIMATE ANOMILY and so are his paintings. Let’s be honest here the world is full of stereotypes even in the year 2013 and usually they are pretty accurate but this guy can’t be defined by the status quo and neither can his art. He is a white guy giving visuals of what most folks wouldn’t think he knows anything about.
Not all art is rolling picturesque hills and snowcapped mountains scaling the countryside. Not all art is abstract to be puzzled together with imagination, nor is all art subjective. Sometimes you need that “in your face” depiction of what’s real regardless if it’s real where you live because it definitely does exist somewhere.
Jesse takes the addictions from the hood whether it be, malted liquor, Mary Jane trees ( marijuana for those who need the official name) , pipes for base, weapons of mass destruction, gold chains, and naked women all of these thing are the kryptonite of youngsters not living in suburbia and crafted them like Picasso.
It’s like he took a song from Nas’ lyrics and painted them word for word with every sketch and every stroke.
His current location of New York is sure to please him with more inspiration for his pieces he can just take a drive to the Bronx or Harlem but from the looks of things I don’t think he will fit in.
