Baggins End is what some people might consider a hippie commune. Regardless, the Davis Domes have served as a self stutainable green community for UC Davis students since 1972. There are organic gardens outside each dome, also a large communal garden and greenhouse. Students also have all the resources to fix things on site with a well-equipped tool shed that has accumulated tools for the last 40 years. Chickens roam free and produce eggs daily. There are 14 domes total, inspired by Buckminster Fuller, which feature fiberglass-shell exteriors, with a kitchen on one side and a bathroom on the other. The Domes were threatened back in 2011 and were almost lost forever but students rallied and were able to save them.
