Kristin Baker is a SoHo based artist who has been on the scene since her 2003 debut of her Flat Out exhibit. Her debut showcased her interest in the subject of automobiles and their movements. In recent work, she has moved on from automobiles, but continued to show the same regard for movement and speed. The artists paints her futuristic paintings on PVC panels and aluminum using stencils and paints.
Her paintings are often a critique of modern day society and Capitalism, especially the importance of material possessions. Pieces such as Kurtoplac Kurve explore the effects of advertising. Her most recent work was done at the request of the Metropolitan Opera. The piece, Parsifal, was inspired by the opera of that name. It was on display there until March 4, 2013.
