James Roper’s art is anything but ordinary. He works in various mediums including painting, sculpture, film, and text. A graphic design series called “Hypermass” calls on Anime styles and creates beautiful explosions of color. Many of his images show half nude women, all painted or designed in an abstract form. His paintings all resemble some sort of bright smoke exploding in itself, each work delicate and destructive at the same time, each blending unique colors. His drawings use grayscale and each one has its own color palette mixed in. His collection titled “Rapture” features a single, fit woman tearing off her shirt. Her breasts are not revealed, instead there is a burst of color covering her head and upper chest. He plays with all forms of line and color to create this tantalizing series of mixed media pieces. Each is titled “The Ecstasy of ____,” except he actually writes the models name. No matter what media Roper works with his art creates an explosion of feeling within the viewer.
