André Butzer’s oil paintings feature bright colors, strange shapes, and cartoon imagery. His paintings have a friendly, happy feel to them, aside from the fact that many of his odd-shaped cartoons appear to have their mouths gaped open as if they are screaming. Upon closer inspection, some of these visages resemble human skulls. Ultimately, the vibrancy of Butzer’s paintings offsets their more disturbing qualities.
