As humans, we are constantly trying to make improvements. Sometimes these improvements are to our life, our work, ourselves, or even our partners; but, honestly, have you ever tried improving your trash? More than likely the answer is no…but someone has.
Wang Zhiyuan, a Beijing-based artist, accepted the challenge to create something beautiful out of rubbish. “Thrown to the Wind” (2010) is a towering 11-metre high, lifelike tornado made of, you guessed it… trash (plastic to be specific).
So what inspires an artist to start this type of project?
Well, the avalanches of trash that surrounded his home city and countryside. And, ultimately, the desire for his art to contribute to society.
Wang’s piece reminds us that art can have the humblest background and still make a statement.
