Gabriel Orozco is proving himself one of the masters of Modernism in its resurgence in the art world. The oeuvre of the internationally renowned Mexican artist celebrates nature as well as commercial and industrial aspects of society. His installations, sculptures, photographs, and paintings intensely relate to infrastructure–for example the mechanics of the skeletal system and transportation–despite containing clear touches of abstract ideas. Orozco’s paintings combine rigid lines with circular aspects to create a modern and geometrical treat for the eyes. His use of patterns and neutral colors in his sculptures is largely responsible for their almost hypnotic intrigue. One cannot help but feel impressed by his seemingly simple yet complex works of art.
