Chicago-based artist Nick Cave is a sculptor, dancer, and performance artist whose transcendental work has been shown nationally and internationally. He’s also the Chairman of the Fashion Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Cave is known for his soundsuits: unique, colorful suits that can be worn as costumes. Their significant size and construction trigger a transformation in the wearer, leading to a new experience of himself and his surroundings.
The suits come in a variety of shapes and are made of all kinds of found materials, such as twigs, flowery knits, chains, stuffed animals, rugs, painted metal, wooden toys, and brightly dyed hair. Combining motion, sound, and color, there’s no denying that they make for multi-layered experiences that easily take performance art to a new level.
