The Wake

The Wake appeared and disappeared from the collective music spotlight during the early 1980s, leaving a legacy of scattered post-punk singles and a quality full-length, Here Comes Everybody, to remember them by. They toured with New Order in 1983, and although they received attention for a few notable tracks, they remain a largely obscure act in music history. Take a listen to ‘On Our Honeymoon’ below, the track that originally got the attention of Factory Records; gloomy minimalism with solid hooks and a sound that’s an obvious precursor to Robert Smith and the mainstream success of dark alt-pop. Not bad.
