Unsigned Atlantan artist Dog Bite considers himself a Folk/Surf/Trance musician, whatever that means. Here’s a collection of songs entitled Gold Rings Last we stumbled upon while perusing his tumblr. Though warm and sandy themes crop up in Dog Bite’s work – in “Beach Dance”, or the lyrics of “Shared Love” (“This is my love for the summertime”), for instance – it’s the warm, candid guitar lines, chirruping, clicking loops and elongated yodels that earn Gold Rings Last the term “Summery”. While clearly recalling the likes of weird-indie frontrunners Deerhunter and Panda Bear, Dog Bite manoeuvres sufficiently clear of plain ol’ hipster regurgitation, the golden veneer of his music soon peeling away to reveal a surprising range of emotions, all bound by darned fine songwriting. Woof.
