We’ve just rung in the New Year and we’re here to present the emerging electro acts to watch in 2011. 2010 was a great year in music and these acts have made the electronic music scene stand up and take notice. In the US, Los Angeles still has the reigns when it comes to propelling the electronic and indie music scene forward and our first act is no exception.
Originally from the East Coast, Brett Sorrentino and RJ Buchanan are Valerna, a fast emerging indie electro duo out of none other than L to the A. Initially forming as a five piece electro band, the boys then took a detour into hip hop production before finding themselves in Los Angeles and back to their roots of electro and boy are we glad they did. Valerna released monsterous singles and remixes on electronic label giants such as Plasmapool and Dim Mak with more releases expected on equal heavy weights such as MSTRKRFT‘s Teenage Riot label.
Their current “Look Ma No Pants” EP is burning up the charts with the title track being a dirty discovery in disco in need of no salvation and Eruption being of epic dance floor destroying proportions.
Citing some of their inspirations as being Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode and Orbital, Valerna will continue to be on fire in the coming months of 2011. They started the new year with a bang, having released a dizzying amount singles that are sure to solidify their well deserved place in the LA electro elite.
On the best thing about LA
On the worst thing about LA
VALERNA: “No one seems to have jobs yet they all have more money than you”
On their New Years Reolution
VALERNA: Take over!
And in deed they will! Watch out 2011, here the come.
THE BLUSH FOUNDATION
The Blush Foundation are a two girl indie electro outfit who are no strangers to the scene and have even shared the bill with the likes of Cindi Lauper and although they have a solid following in their home of Australia, we haven’t heard much buzz about them Stateside and we wondered why? Perhaps Americans are too busy pokefacing it to Lady Gaga or drooling over LA Lo-Fi. Perhaps it’s up to us to let America know what they’ve been missing.
The Blush Foundation’s music is laced with sexy synths, saucy lyrics, hypnotic vibes and clever beats. Best of all, their music is smart. What more could you ask for? Their music is best described as the cigarette you smoke after a hot romp in the sack, the ultimate gratifacation.
We started in LA and thus we have come full circle to end this version of emerging electro of 2011 Version 1.0 in none other than…you guessed it, LA! Last but definitely not least is Dan and Jeremy who in only 6 months time have made a name for themselves in the Los Angeles circuit as Liberty are well on their way breaking out abroad. The boys first shot to the surface of attention with a rough and dirty rendition of Justice’s Stress and a floor filling take on Far East Movement’s G6. They are expected to release thier Debut single along with several other tracks and remixes.
