Every week writing for Sick of the Radio, I’m introduced to amazing new artists that I have the privilege to write about. But Diego Gravinese stands out even among the volumes of quality artists we review. Now, I don’t want to get into any bullsh*t standpoint that hierarchizes the merits of any artist based on one writer’s obscure subjective tastes and criteria. What I’m saying about Gravinese I hope is pretty straightforward. His canvases demonstrate considerable skill in his ability to create photo-realistic oil paintings–a skill that never ceases to impress me, but is nevertheless not really genius in itself. Here, the miraculous thing is Gravinese’s aptitude for combining hyper-photo-realism with compelling contemporary design. Diego Gravinese is all the way from Argentina, so if you’re reading in the US, its an import that we’ve made very convenient and well worth the read. Check out his webpage here, this guy’s oil is slick.
