After being discovered on Myspace by happenstance, Alice Glass and Ethan Kath, the Canadian duo known as “Crystal Castles“ have been touring madly around the US and Europe. They’ve released their second self titled album, labeled “II” for reference purposes, just in time for the holidays and it has already been voted “Best New Music” by Pitchfork.
“Crystal Castles II” out on Fiction Records is a 14 track experiment in noise and emotion, highlights of which are the break-beat laden “Birds,” the riot inciting Doe Deer, the suprising sounds of “Baptism” and the driller “Year Of Silence”. Crystal Castles also generated a lot of buzz with the release of their single “Not In Love,” a spine tingling remake featuring the legendary Robert Smith of The Cure.
The pair will be heading up the NME Awards festival this coming February and with sold out 2011 tour dates, audiences don’t seem to be tiring of the bands excursions in noise and Alice Glass’ shrills; that is, after all what they’re known and loved for.
