When Design and Art consummate their relationship and a new creative piece is born, sometimes the greatness is overwhelming – you have to stop, look and sigh. That’s what I did when I first saw the illustrations and collages of Liverpool-based artist Benbo George. Repetition and mirroring feature largely in most images, whilst pop culture icons are displaced in trippy collages. George’s work is straight out of a 1980s coffee table magazine, and I would expect to see his prints on the walls of any boutique design agency in London. It might be the grain of the pictures or the simplicity of their content that makes each image so striking. My favourite is “Heart“: simple and suggestive, it’s a representation I definitely agree with.
