Scorpion Violente‘s droning tracks are music at its most streamlined. Another participant in the looping renaissance, it rides the electronic wave to a far shore. Distant, usually unintelligible vocals are chanted over endlessly repeated midi drums, one or two constant chords, and occasional electric plinks. Listening to “cherrypopper” or “christopher walken” is like walking along a dark 16-bit road, all the pixilated plants on either side swaying stiffly to the music. As an added bonus, much of their lyrics are in German, adding a charmingly nihilistic edge to the drone. Mmm, Trance-y.
