Technicolor Yawn is the name of a musical solo project of Brian Amsterdam, a member of the NYC musical collective Werewolves. The singer has released multiple tapes and digital downloads this year, most notably Youth Rituals and the Come Wander single on his own imprint, Yes & No Recordings. Amsterdam has noted his heroes to be John Cage, Jim O’Rourke, Alice and John Coltrane and Azalia Snail. Brian started recording tapes in 1994 when he was in second grade under the name “Help Wanted”. He has released one album under the name “Amsterdam” (2005′s The Sore Score, Aeria Records) and two using his full name (2007′s “Werewolves EP” on Yes & No and 2008′s “Concrete Myths”, released on BNS Sessions/Cargo Records/Yes & No). The multi-instrumentalist started using the name “Technicolor Yawn” in 2010. Amsterdam has also recorded with other bands, such as playing combo organ on “Time to Go” off of Tk Webb & The Visions’ “Ancestor” (2008 Kemado), and guitar on “Mexico” and “How Can We Hang On?”, two tracks currently unreleased from The Lemonheads recent Varshons cover album (2009 The End). Brian has collaborated live with Gang Gang Dance, Buddy Miles (Band of Gypsys), Buddy Cage (New Riders of the Purple Sage), Soft Black, among many others.
