Michachu and the Shapes are odd. Technically speaking, there’s much, much weirder music out there but the sounds these guys have produced have the kind of aftertaste you get from eating something after brushing your teeth.
They fuse poppy female vocals with lofi fuzz and unpredictable beats. Lips showcases the band’s childlike essence, which acts as an excuse for more experimentation. Flicking between moments of genuine impressiveness and babbles of embarassment, Micachu and the Shapes seem to be enjoying what they’re doing. Although the most interesting thing is, that odd aftertaste is actually quite refreshing.
