Where to begin with these two…
They may have moved to New York from Croatia, but their brains are from somewhere much, much further away. Jumping from medium to medium and darting erratically (and perhaps carelessly) between the borders of high and low art, Dora and Maja satirize America’s many absurdities in ways that are sometimes biting, sometimes baffling, but always entertaining.
Be it an Atomic Age candy shop selling prescription drugs, an orgy of surrealistic activity in a cut-paper mural, or two sandwich costumes made to “sandwich” random strangers on their way to work as an excuse for them to be late, Dora and Maja have proved their world of outrageous sarcasm and spontaneity to be one of both garish hilarity and intellectual challenge.
