Psychedelic and hip-hop are two genres that don’t normally mix, and, when they do meet, terrible things happen. Luckily, California desert-dweller Gonjasufi has mastered the art of making terrible things beautiful. With rapping and vocals that are oftentimes absent, the backdrop of the songs become vital. At times reggae meets soul and Klezmer, drone mingles with drum machines, and, in the case of track, “FKD,” all hell literally breaks loose. If genreless music tickles your fancy, check out Gonjasufi’s latest release on Warp Records and head on down to his MySpace page to hear the new things he’s scheming up.
