When not creating collages capable of actually making you heave, the mysterious Elephant Face writes calming, wonky electronica worthy of those eccentric alternative types over at Anticon. The influence of sinister vinyl bending wizard Odd Nosdam is clear. Like Nosdam, Elephant Face does an excellent job of combining the mundane with the surreal, setting loping, dusty beats to old-timey jazz loops, or chattered voice samples. ’Tasty Treat’ showcases a talent for audio collage; excited voices meld with playful synths and undulating distortion. Scottish electronica pioneers Boards of Canada provide another clear reference point - Elephant Face shows a similar ear for an uplifting, lilting melody. The end product is something of a delicious sedative.
