On Soft Gates‘ new album, Life Club, songs are perhaps too poignant. Soft Gates is Berk Çakmakçı (and a slew of electronic machines) and his compositions seem to eclipse the desired sound for instrumental electronic bands in 2010. While chillwave and its scattered relatives are uniquely American in a locale sense, the Istanbul-rooted Çakmakçı strives to create dreamy and ethereal songs textured with confidence: his work is never contrived, cheesy, or weakly enacted. On Life Club, every track is an individual creation, with the flow between songs dependent on beauty and not a mundane regression to “sameness.”
Soft Gates offers all of its tracks up for free. You can download Life Club here.
