Dig out your fuzz pedal, apply facepaint and adjust your afro-comb – LA’s weirdest afrobeat revivalists, Pocahaunted, are touring the states. Pocahaunted’s songs sound like the soundtrack to some awesome ’70s Nigerian detective show. Lamentful, faraway vocals and quavering hammond organ are anchored by some HEAVY bass and relaxed, syncopated drumming. The sweet lord only knows what might happen at a Pocahaunted live show though! Look at the above shot, from SXSW ’09. She so crazy! The trumpeter looks as if he’s suffering a massive nervous breakdown. It’s what happens when you dabble in the psychedelic VOODOO. You’ve been warned.
