Who says high fashion and garage rock don’t go together? Not The Plastiscines, who hail from the Parisian suburbs and can now add crowds in North America to those who have fallen under their seduction. Listing bands like The Strokes and The Kinks as their influences, it’s not hard to see where the all female quartet has learned their attitude, and even recruited their bass player at a Libertines gig. The Plastiscines are comprised of Katty Besnard, Marine Neuilly, Louise Basilien, and Anoushka Vandevyvere, and have been together since 2004, save for a few changes in band members. Their single “Bitch” was featured on Gossip Girl, and their sophomore LP, About Love, was released in 2009 on Nylon Records. Leading the pack of France’s Nouvelle Scène Rock Française which seems to be making it’s way across the ocean in bulk (Second Sex, The Shades), they landed a spot at Coachella in 2008. Their aggressively sassy sound may not come from the same rock n’ roll depths as some of their aforementioned idols, but they certainly know how to put on a good show. Think: The Go Go’s with a touch of Cherie Currie, but from France. And with really big trust funds.
