Nathan Williams is ready to step back into the lo-fi garage fuzz spotlight, after a tumultuous year of band turmoil and on stage meltdowns tugged him out of it for some time away. Having recruited Billy Hayes and Stephen Pope, (formerly of the late Jay Reatard‘s band), to Wavves, Williams recently spoke with Pitchfork about not only the band’s revitalized roster, but their cleaner sound.  “The last thing I wanted to do was record the same record again”, said Williams. “A lot of bands kind of get comfortable with something like that; once they know they’ve got something that some people like, they’ll just go and try and recreate that.” For the band’s forthcoming third album, King of the Beach, Wavves ditched the DIY Macbook formula in lieu of setting up shop at Mississippi’s Sweet Tea Studio. “I just feel like that would’ve been so fucking boring to do. I wanted to just do something completely different. That was the beginning of the whole thing. But once I got into it, it wasn’t even about recording a different record, necessarily. I was just trying to make the best record that I could, and I think that’s what we did.” See for yourself when King of the Beach, out on Fat Possum Records,  hits stores on August 2. In the meantime, Wavves will set out on a short string of tour dates that include stops in Brooklyn, Toronto and all weekend long at Lollapalooza. By: Carly Lewis
