Blk Jks, recently hailed by Rolling Stone as “Africa’s best new band”, is comprised of Molefi Makananise on bass, Lindani Themba Buthelezi and Mpumelelo Mcata on guitar, and Tshepang Ramoba on drums, with all four doing vocals. Heavily infused in their music is the culture of South Africa, where they all grew up. Since they dropped their last album “After Robots” in 2009 they have started to gain some International recognition for their distinctive, original, yet traditionally based sound, even collaborating with Tiesto on a new track for Smirnoff. They are even combining traditional South African beats, rhythm, and harmony with a bit of an indie rock feel these guys are creating their own distinctive sound that seems to melt together the worlds of indie, rock and roll, ska, reggae, jazz, and progressive.
