CocoRosie was created in 2003 by two American-born sisters, Sierra and Bianca Casady. Their beginning was about as humble as beginnings get. The sisters recorded their first full-length album, La Maison de Mon Rêve, in Sierra’s bathroom in Paris, releasing it on the indie label Touch and Go Records. They have a very lo-fi, experimental sound, with quirky vocals, à la Bjork or Joanna Newsom, laid over simple instrumentals. While they have more or less stayed true to this initial formula, CocoRosie has come a long way from those first days in Paris, and this year is proving to be a very busy one for the Casady sisters. Sub Pop Records announced signing CocoRosie to the label on February 23 of this year, and they will be releasing their next album, Grey Oceans, in less than two weeks, on May 11. The duo is also launching a tour of Europe and the United States, starting in May and continuing through July.
