Sacramento’s Buk Buk Bigups is Aaron Zeff. His music has been described as “plastic brown-eye soul” and “valley downer funk”. His self titled debut 12″ is available on Weird Forrest. Only 500 copies have been pressed, and they are bound to sell out… so get over to Weird Forrest and buy one, for 9 bucks its a steal. Buk Buk Bigups experiments with many different styles, he borrows from many influences and different time periods. The song “Hot Mess” sounds like a strung out ZZ Top song circa 1985 with its reverby drum loop, bluesy guitars and 80′s synths. “Not that kind of thing” starts off sounding like a classic rock anthem and then a keyboard beat and and delayed vocals break in giving the track its sloppy lo-fi aesthetic.
