SXSW: “I Love Brooklyn & Austin Showcase”

Austin is great and all, but it does need a lil’ kick of Brooklyn flare… we did invent the hipster, after all. That was exactly the reason behind “I Love Brooklyn & Austin Showcase” at Austin’s Fado Irish Pub on the Thursday (March 18, 2010)  night of SXSW.

While Texas natives Sleep Whale took the stage around 8pm, they were delightfully sandwiched between Brooklynites, Savoir Adore, and later in the evening, Interpol’s lead singer and his new musical venture, Paul Banks and the Carousels.

Unlike many of the shows in Austin that didn’t require a badge or wristband, this one was in a pub with ample backyard for lounging and drinking, without the need to rush a stage…an ideal setting for the eclectic mix of bands.

The other bands from the evening were: Wakey Wakey!, The Love Language, Drink Up Buttercup, and Home Video…all worth checking out live.
