It is under the cover of darkness that Yoshiyoki made his best photos. He stumbled across couples in the 1970′s having sex in Tokyo’s public parks after dark. Images of sex in the bushes, on benches, and on makeshift beds of newspaper often with peeping toms alongside the couples, are found in Yoshiyuki’s “The park” photographs. “The Park” was fist exhibited in 1979. Yoshiyoki’s images were blow up to life size photos displayed in a gallery without lighting. Each visitor was given a flashlight to explore, much like a voyeur in a dark park. After the show the prints were destroyed and not exhibited again until 2007 in New York.
